For this task, I have been asked to research on my client for my own music video. My client is 99 Dollar Music Video.
$99 Music Videos showcases music videos from todays best independent bands and up-and-coming filmmakers, all made with a budget of under $99, allowing them to be creative. To gain more publicity, they help promote already made videos from the creators. On their channel, they display the making of the video and the final outcome for the audience to watch. On 99dollarmusicvideo's YouTube channel, there is a video explaining what the 99dollarmusicvideo site is all about and the time the filming has to be done by, which is in 24 hours, and the editing process time which has to be done in 24 hours too, gaining help for the artist as they have an idea of the time consuming tasks. Also, it shows what other skills the artist/film maker contains when cutting to the beat etc. Collaborating with a film maker provides equipment that can make their music video be displayed even better, making it an advantage for the up-coming artist.
What is their ethos?
- Time when filming and editing the music video is both 24 hours
- Including a film maker to create a great piece of work
- Allowing artists to show their creative side being displayed throughout their music video
- Making a music video for $99 or less, summing up the whole idea of the website
What types, labels, and genres of music appear on their website?
The website is for the artists that are unsigned, any artists that have management and funding will not be guided and helped by the website with cost as the website is aimed at unsigned artists. There are a variety of genres on the website. The main genres shown on the website are indie, punk/rock, soul, and rock. The use of the website helps upcoming artists to promote themselves and allows them all over the world to produce videos and make them popular and can also introduce a new genre. Having varied music genres helps myself as I don't have to chose a song that I dislike.
What is the relationship between 99dollarmusicvideos.com, their film-makers, and music acts?
There is a clear state on the website for the film-maker and the artist to have a close relationship. This is whether you collaborate together, or receive feedback. There must be a bond between the film-maker and the artist as it will help the music video to be successful to the best of it's ability, as one of the key points to making a great piece of work is having a tight relationship when working together. There are permission for things to be done. There must be permission for the collaboration between the film-maker and the artist to use the song and to both accept the contribution within the song. The website has implied for the two parties to put their ideas forward and be constructive about it when working together, this will mean both of the parties will have equal input to all of the consequences. If the film-maker disagrees and wants full control over the making of the music video, then they have to write a letter in which they have to send to the artist asking their permission in doing so. This then leads into the artist in having to sign a contract to give the film-maker a final completion of doing what they want to make the music video.
Which costs are and aren't included in the $99?
Following the rules of the website, the artist and the film-maker will be received $99 to make their music video. The $99 does not include in using your own equipment, although it may include props, costumes, and renting out a setting for the music video to be filmed at. When it comes down to making my own music video, I will end up having to find free props to use, or if lucky, finding cheap things to use that I will have to buy. Also, I would be able to use public settings that are free to use for my video.

Is it possible to make a professional quality music video for $99?
This music video consists of a wide range of camera movements around the band. Special effects have been added to give it creativity. This video is a great example of only having to use a camera and ideas to make a professional looking music video, inspiring up-coming artists to use the same technique. Although the music video has no meaning to the song, it's eye-catching and enjoyable to watch. The artist uses a technique which is called stop motion. This is shown as 0:58 seconds, the way that it has been produced makes it look exhilarating and professional, making viewers surprised as it's something expected in an expensive music video. The use of stop motion used is simple but effective and adds creativity as they're simply in a forest playing with instruments. This technique is something I would take into consideration when making my music video production stage.
