Production Log: Week 1

What have you contributed to this week?

The first week of pre-production consisted of presenting my music video pitch to the class, receiving feedback, choosing my partner and the music video idea, and the planning of the chosen idea for the music video on an A3 sheet. My music video pitch went very well as I went into full detail about every aspect on each slide. The feedback challenged me slightly but I always found a way to answer the questions. When it came to choosing partners, me and Farhana paired up. We had a few moments to decide who's idea we were going to use which resolved to mine as we thought mine was very different and hadn't been done before. We had to do a group rationale where we had to answer a few questions that me and Farhana pre-answered before filming ourselves expressing the answers. We both put in inputs of ideas and used my original ideas with development on what was going to happen on each verse and chorus on an A3 sheet which helped a huge amount as we felt more secured on what was going to happen in our music video overall.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

Because we haven't started to film yet, we're not stable and sure whether it will fit our production schedule, although we are very prepared in terms of knowing what we want to do and how we want it to be done and so we hope it will go to plan evenly. Job roles are something that we are both certain and clear about and so there are no concerns at this moment of time. For our overall ideas of the project, we are both not in doubt of where we want to shoot the scenes on each verse and chorus and the cast we want to use at that particular scene.

Were there any problems?

There have been no problems for the first week. We were happy to be paired up as we have both worked on a previous project in which we worked very well together. We discussed ideas and we are both fine on how we have pictured the music video to come out as which allowed us to flow in communication.

How did you/will you overcome them?

As I mentioned in my previous question, there are no problems. If there were to be any problems, we would most likely to find a solution to sort it out and to not let it ruin our whole experience of the project. We meet our deadlines and are hard working people as we both want the best grade to come out of this which I hope will happen with Farhana as she is reliable and work driven.

What are the plans for the following week?

The following week will consist of pre-planning and working on our shooting script. From using a shooting script on my two previous projects, I find it very helpful and dependable as it gives us the overall music video idea cut down into sections as it tells us the number of shots we are going to use, and what type of camera angles/special effects etc. we will use in the sections. Myself and Farhana will jot down our ideas onto the shooting script in full detail so we don't forget when it comes to filming our music video.

Music Video Pitch & Feedback

Pitch Reflection:

Are there any areas of the presentation you would like to give any more detail on?

I thought throughout my whole presentation I went into full detail about every aspect on each slide, however, I feel as if I could of added clips of examples of maybe how I would like my music video to look, or a clip from the film 'Taken' as it relate backs to my whole idea of the woman taking the man hostage... but, I feel as if if I was to add videos then the time limit would go over. I feel I gave a clear what/why explanation on each slide so my audience knew exactly what I wanted to do and for them to not get confused.

What did your audience identify as the strengths of your music video idea?

The audience hadn't asked a lot of questions which I feel was a good sign as it shows I went into full detail and that they understood a majority of everything I was trying to pitch to the class. Quite a few people have said that my idea is unique and original as the twist is a complete contradiction to the jolly up-beat song that it is, which is good as it shows i've thought more outside the box than just the usual 'confused feelings' and only showing how the boy and girl feels on each perspective which I thought was boring and repetitive. The audience liked how I was subliminally going to show how the girl was slightly crazy at the very start of the video as i'm going to make her walk out of a mental home like a normal person and walk through alley ways to give the target audience the idea of there being something odd about the girl and that she's hiding something that she shouldn't be. They had also said that I was more or less prepared with things as I know who i'm using for my video, where i'm going to film, the exact conventions i'm going to use, and the props that i'm going to use.

What did your audience identify as areas for improvement and what changes will you make to your music video concept based on feedback you received?

I didn't receive any negative feedback for my actual music video idea. Some asked questions, one being if I was going to complete all my filming in 6 days which I have now changed to at least 10 days at the most. Another question being, if I was going to involve lip syncing which I am e.g. when the girl is walking home through the alley ways, I will get her to lip sync directly to the camera. Another question being, where I was going to film in London and I said that I wasn't actually going to film in central London, just the area I live in which is Chadwell Heath, but now I have decided that I might film a bit in London where it could show when she was normal with the boy and they're on a date. I may film them on the London Eye or near the River Thames as it's romantic and it shows the highlight of their relationship at that moment of time, and then the contrast as to where she became crazy and got confused with her feelings.
